Key takeaways

  • On October 27, 2026, Ripple and Robinhood announced a partnership covering RLUSD, Ripple Treasury and Ripple Prime.
  • RLUSD is live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood. Ripple says it is expected in the Robinhood app later this year, so it is not there yet.
  • Robinhood will use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger to settle money for Bitstamp's institutional clients.
  • Robinhood is not buying or holding XRP. The release does not say that. XRP's link is the ledger's fees and reserves, which are paid in XRP.
  • Ripple Treasury will run parts of Robinhood's cash management, and Ripple Prime will offer Bitstamp lending and margin financing across about 20 digital assets.

Ripple and Robinhood announced a partnership on October 27, 2026. Robinhood will use RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar stablecoin, on the XRP Ledger to settle money for its institutional business, and it will plug Ripple’s treasury and prime brokerage services into its operations. Robinhood is not buying XRP. Here is what is live, what is only planned, and where XRP fits.

The short version

  • RLUSD is live today on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood.
  • It is not in the Robinhood app yet. Ripple says it is expected there later this year.
  • Bitstamp’s institutional clients will settle in RLUSD on the XRP Ledger.
  • Ripple Treasury and Ripple Prime are part of the deal too.
  • The release says nothing about Robinhood buying or holding XRP.

What did Ripple and Robinhood announce?

The source is Ripple’s press release, “Ripple and Robinhood Partner to Power the Next Generation of Finance”. CNBC covered it the same day. The release says RLUSD will be “a key stablecoin across Robinhood’s digital asset ecosystem.”

The deal has four parts:

  1. RLUSD on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood.
  2. XRP Ledger settlement for Bitstamp’s institutional business.
  3. Ripple Treasury inside Robinhood’s cash management.
  4. Ripple Prime lending and trading at Bitstamp.

Robinhood has 28.6 million funded customers, according to the release. RLUSD, which launched in December 2024, has a market cap of over $2.4 billion. That is still small next to total stablecoin supply of over $300 billion.

Is RLUSD in the Robinhood app?

Not yet. RLUSD is live in two places today: Robinhood Chain, Robinhood’s own blockchain network, and Bitstamp by Robinhood, the exchange Robinhood owns. Ripple’s wording for the main app is that RLUSD is “expected to be available later this year in the Robinhood app.” That is Ripple’s plan, not something live today.

If you are new to RLUSD, our look at RLUSD passing $2 billion covers where it sits and how it differs from XRP, and RLUSD’s freeze and clawback settings covers what the issuer can control.

What does XRP Ledger settlement mean?

The release says Robinhood will use RLUSD on the XRPL for institutional settlement across Bitstamp by Robinhood’s institutional business.

In plain English: settlement is the moment money actually moves and a trade becomes final. Institutional means big clients, such as funds and firms, not regular app users. When those clients settle up with Bitstamp, Robinhood plans to move the dollars as RLUSD on the XRP Ledger.

The reason is timing. A bank wire can take a day or more, and banks close on weekends and holidays. Crypto markets never close. A dollar token on the XRP Ledger can move in seconds, at any hour.

Is Robinhood buying XRP?

No. The release does not say Robinhood will buy, hold or newly list XRP. XRP appears only in the part of the release that describes Ripple.

XRP’s link to this deal is the ledger itself. Every transaction on the XRP Ledger pays a small fee in XRP, and that fee is destroyed rather than paid to anyone. Our fee burn explainer shows how small those amounts are. Every account also keeps a small amount of XRP set aside, called a reserve. So more RLUSD activity on the ledger means more XRP used for fees and reserves. The amounts per transaction are tiny.

The bigger point is the choice of network. A company the size of Robinhood picked the XRP Ledger to settle institutional money. We looked at the same gap between Ripple’s wins and XRP holders in why XRP holders aren’t paid by Ripple’s wins.

What is Ripple Treasury doing for Robinhood?

Robinhood will integrate Ripple Treasury for cash and liquidity management, cash flow forecasting, payments, risk management and intercompany netting.

Intercompany netting is when one part of a company owes another part money, and the two amounts are cancelled against each other so less cash has to move. For a global company like Robinhood, with businesses in different countries, these are everyday problems. A public company now runs parts of its own cash management on Ripple’s software.

What is Ripple Prime doing with Bitstamp?

Ripple Prime is Ripple’s prime brokerage, a service that lends money and handles trading for big clients. Under the deal:

  • Ripple Prime will give Bitstamp by Robinhood lending and margin financing across about 20 digital assets.
  • Ripple Prime clients get spot trading on Bitstamp.
  • Ripple plans to support perpetual futures trading on Bitstamp later in the year. That part is not live.

Our earlier piece on Ripple Prime explains how the business works.

What did Ripple and Robinhood say?

Monica Long, President of Ripple, said: “What makes our partnership with Robinhood so exciting is the breadth of what we’re building together.”

Johann Kerbrat, who runs Robinhood Crypto and International, said: “Utility is what moves stablecoins forward.” He added: “That is what a connected, global financial system looks like.”

How does this fit Ripple’s week?

The Robinhood deal came in a busy stretch for Ripple:

  • October 26: Ripple announced final approval from the OCC, the US regulator that charters national banks, for its national trust bank. Our trust bank explainer covers what that means.
  • October 27: the Robinhood partnership.
  • October 27: an expanded partnership with BNY covering custody and tokenized trade finance, per Ripple’s announcement.

What this is, and what it isn’t

This is real use of the XRP Ledger by a large, regulated, public company. It is Ripple’s dollar live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp, and Ripple’s software inside Robinhood’s money operations.

It is not Robinhood buying XRP. It is not RLUSD in the Robinhood app today. And it is not, on its own, a reason to buy or sell anything. Nobody can tell you what XRP’s price will do because of this news.

If you want to check the details yourself, read the Ripple press release and look for three lines: RLUSD live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp, RLUSD on the XRPL for institutional settlement, and the Robinhood app “expected later this year.”
