XRP 589 and the Times Square Bulbs: 589, 594 and the Fed's Date
The 2026 Times Square numerals were announced with 589 bulbs, then listed at 594. What 2026 brought for XRP, and the Fed date that is actually on paper.

Key takeaways
- The 589 bulb count was said out loud at the December 18, 2025 unveiling, but the Times Square Alliance's own sheet eight days later listed 594 LEDs.
- According to the video, 589 comes from anonymous riddles posted from 2018, and no document or official source attaches a date to it.
- The March 17, 2026 joint SEC and CFTC interpretive release named XRP among 16 digital commodities. The video calls it the year's biggest XRP event, and no sign or number predicted it.
- A Fed footnote says the Board currently expects its pause on some payment account applications to end on or before December 31, 2026. That is an expectation, not a deadline, and it says nothing about XRP's price.
- The video's three questions for holders are where your coins are kept and who holds the keys, whether they are doing anything, and the price level and date at which you would act.
The XRP “589” number resurfaced when the 2026 Times Square numerals were unveiled on December 18, 2025, and a Times Square Alliance official said they held 589 bulbs. Eight days later, the Alliance’s own sheet listed 594. The video argues the date that actually matters for XRP this year is one the Federal Reserve wrote down: December 31, 2026.
The video says many long-term holders have mentally tied a payoff year to 589. With 2026 almost over, it asks a practical question: if the year ends and the number never “arrives,” what is the plan for your coins? Its answer is about structure, not dates.
Did the Times Square sign really have 589 bulbs?
The count of 589 is on tape. At the December 18, 2025 unveiling, a Times Square Alliance official described the numerals as 7 feet tall and gave this breakdown:
| Numeral | Bulbs (as announced Dec 18) | Bulbs (Alliance sheet, Dec 26) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 (first) | 145 | 145 |
| 0 | 164 | 164 |
| 2 (second) | 145 | 145 |
| 6 | 135 | 140 |
| Total | 589 | 594 |
On December 26 the numerals went up on the roof. The Times Square Alliance’s sheet gave the six 140 bulbs, and local news that morning reported “a total of 594 LED lights.” The video notes that holders who count the bulbs in photos still get 589, and some treat the number spoken aloud as the meaningful one. Bullrunners’ view: the 589 count was genuinely said, the official paperwork says 594, and neither tells you anything about XRP’s price.
Where does XRP 589 come from?
According to the video, the 589 number comes from riddles posted from 2018 by an anonymous account known as Bearableguy123. The video says there is no name behind the account and no document that sets 589 or attaches a date to it. It adds that in 2018, some holders pinned the number to the end of that year.
The video says that on Christmas Eve 2025, the same account wished followers a happy new year 2026, and that the post drew nearly 5 million views. When the 2026 numerals were then announced with 589 bulbs, the timing fueled the theory. Bullrunners has looked in more detail at whether Bearableguy123’s 2018 clues predate the news.
According to the video, on December 27 an XRP account called Not Financial Advice asked people to guess the bulb count, and the post passed a million views. The video says that a day later Caroline Pham replied with three rocket emojis. Pham is the former acting chair of the CFTC (America’s commodities regulator) and has since joined crypto payments firm MoonPay. The video is careful here: she said nothing about 589. In a separate interview a few weeks into 2026, she described it as “the year of institutional adoption,” pointing to regulatory clarity from the SEC.
What did 2026 actually bring for XRP?
In 2026 XRP got one major regulatory step, one legislative setback and plenty of price swings. The video points out that none of them lined up with a number on a sign.
- Early January: CNBC called XRP “the breakout trade of the 2026 crypto rally.” It was up more than 20% in a week and had passed BNB to become the third-largest cryptocurrency by market value. A guest on the same desk questioned the timing, saying bank cross-border settlement on blockchain still looked “quite a ways away” and that the path would not be “a straight line at all.” The video says the year proved that caution right.
- March 17: The SEC and CFTC issued a joint interpretive release naming 16 crypto assets, including XRP, as digital commodities. In plain terms, XRP is treated more like gold or oil than like a share in a company. The SEC chair called it “a real break with the past.” The video calls this the biggest XRP event of the year.
- March: According to the video, Ripple’s CEO said in a March interview that he had predicted, a little over a month earlier, that the Clarity Act would be signed by the end of April. In that interview he pushed the prediction back to the end of May. The Clarity Act is the bill meant to write crypto market rules into law.
- September 15: A Senate cloture vote on the Clarity Act failed 49 to 50. A cloture vote is the procedural step needed to move a bill to debate, so the bill never reached debate. One analyst called it “a setback” but said he did not think it would derail the market. Bullrunners covered whether the Clarity Act is dead after the 49-50 vote.
The video draws a lesson from this. Rule-makers set dates, move them, and always have a plan for when a date slips. Many holders, it says, pinned their retirement timing on a number that never had a date at all.
What date is actually written down for December 31, 2026?
The written date comes from the Federal Reserve. Ripple asked the Fed for a master account in July 2025. A master account gives a firm direct access to the Fed’s payment system, so it can move dollars itself instead of paying a bank to do it.
On May 20, 2026, the Fed proposed a lighter kind of “payment account.” It also asked its regional Reserve Banks to pause decisions while it finishes its policy work. The pause covers applications from Tier 3 institutions, meaning those that are not federally insured, and coverage placed most crypto firms in that group. A footnote in the proposal says the Board “currently expects the pause to end on or before December 31, 2026.” The video suggests searching “Fed payment account proposal May 2026” to find it on the Fed’s website.
The footnote is an expectation, not a fixed deadline. If the pause ends, regional Reserve Banks can start deciding on those applications again. The footnote does not promise any applicant an answer by December 31. The video is also clear that the date does not mean the Fed is buying XRP. For background on how these account types work, see Kraken’s Fed master account and the three tiers.
What other dates does the video flag?
The video points to two dates before year end:
- October 27: Ripple’s annual Swell event opens in New York and runs for three days. The video calls it the first place to watch for Ripple news because it is Ripple’s own stage.
- December 31: This is the date by which the Fed currently expects to end the application pause. It falls on the same night the next set of numerals lights up in Times Square.
Why the video says a number is not a plan
The video warns that waiting on a number leaves holders with nothing in place when the market does move. It points to July 18, 2025, which it calls XRP’s all-time high. That label depends on the data source. Some price feeds show a peak of about $3.67 that day, while many sources still list the record as $3.84 from January 2018. The video says XRP has not returned to its July 2025 level since, and that many holders were waiting for a bigger figure and took nothing off.
The host describes doing something similar with Dogecoin. He took his initial money out and let the rest ride, then never took profit and watched most of the gains drain away. The video’s quick check is simple. Open the app where your XRP sits and look for any sell order, price alert or other setting you actually chose. If there is none, the only plan is the number in your head.
The video’s three questions for holders
The video closes with three questions for holders to think through:
- Where are your coins kept, and who holds the keys?
- Are your coins doing anything, or just sitting there?
- What is the level and the date at which you would act, in or out? The video suggests writing it somewhere other than your head, so a headline on the night does not decide for you.
For a structured way to think about the third question, see Bullrunners’ 5-step XRP exit-planning framework.
What to watch next
Watch Ripple’s Swell event, which opens October 27, for any company announcements. As December 31 approaches, check the Fed’s website to see whether the payment account pause ends as the Board expects. Treat 589, whether you count 589 or 594, as community lore. The dates that carry weight are the ones on official documents, and even those can slip.
Frequently asked questions
How many bulbs were in the Times Square 2026 sign?
At the December 18, 2025 unveiling, a Times Square Alliance official said 589 bulbs: 164 in the zero, 145 in each two and 135 in the six. On December 26 the Alliance's sheet gave the six 140, for a total of 594, and local news reported 594 LED lights.
Where does the XRP 589 number come from?
According to the video, it comes from riddles posted from 2018 by an anonymous account known as Bearableguy123. The video says there is no name behind the account and no document that sets a date for 589.
Did Caroline Pham comment on 589?
No. The video says the former acting chair of the CFTC, who later joined MoonPay, replied to a post about the bulb count with three rocket emojis and no words. Separately, she called 2026 'the year of institutional adoption' in an interview.
What happens on December 31, 2026 for crypto firms and the Fed?
A footnote in the Fed's May 2026 payment account proposal says the Board currently expects its pause on decisions for Tier 3 applicants, which are institutions that are not federally insured, to end on or before December 31, 2026. Coverage placed most crypto firms in that group. The date is an expectation rather than a deadline, and it does not mean the Fed is buying XRP.
Did the Clarity Act pass in 2026?
No. On September 15, 2026, a Senate cloture vote, the procedural step needed to move a bill to debate, failed 49 to 50, so the bill never reached debate.

THREE, TWO, ONE. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
WOW. We are. So, we're excited to unveil the 2026. This year, the numerals are 7 ft tall. There are 589 bulbs.
That's the man who runs a Times Square alliance. On the 18th of December, 2025, stood next to the numbers that rang in this year. And did you catch the count? 589 bulbs. If you've been in XRP a while, you know why that clip went flying around that Christmas.
And that's not even the strangest bit. 8 days later, his own organization put out a sheet with a different number on it. A woman who was running one of America's market regulators until January reacted to that clip with three emojis and nothing else. And there's the one date for XRP that actually is written down for the end of this year. And I'll get you to check it on your own phone before we're done.
Now, if you've been holding XRP since 2018, waiting on that number to finally mean something, I'm right there with you. And there's a link in the description, the first one. It's changed how a lot of people handle a long weight like this one. So, I'll tell you why before we're 5 minutes in. And if you've got a proper bag of XRP, this is more than a fun number on a sign because this year's nearly gone.
So, it comes down to one question. If the year runs out before the number turns up, what's the plan for our coins? And by the end of this, I'll show you the one thing I'd check first and the three decisions it forces on all of us. So, stay with me. Right.
The 18th of December, 2025, four numbers 7 ft tall get wheeled out onto the plaza in Time Square for selfies before they go up on the roof for midnight. And somebody off camera reads out the breakdown.
We're excited to unveil the 2026 this year. The numerals are 7 ft tall. There are 589 bulbs. It's going to be on display here in Time Square through 700 a.m. on the 23rd. So come out, grab a picture, and look into the future.
And then what happens?
There's 589 bulbs. There's 164 in the zero, 145 in each of the twos. And the six has 135 balls, and the six has 135. Add that lot up, easy math, right? And it comes to 589, which is mad because nobody ever tells you how many bulbs are in anything, do they?
On the 27th of December, an XRP account called Not Financial Advice posts asking people to guess the bulb count and it goes past a million views. A day later, Caroline Fam, who'd been running America's commodities regulator before she joined the crypto firm Moon Pay, reacts with three rocket emojis. No words, so I won't pretend she said anything about 589 because she didn't. But listen to how she talked about this year a few weeks in.
So I think 2026, like I said, is really the year of institutional adoption. It's the year that we start to see some of these commercial use cases actually go live because last year we finally had the regulatory clarity that was necessary, especially from the SEC with their token tonomy to enable some of these partnerships to launch.
Now, did you catch that? The year of institutional adoption. So, so she called it the year 2 just for something other than a number on a sign. And that's what we're going to test. For me, the count's genuine.
It's on tape and the man who said it runs a place. Spotting a 589 on a signs a laugh, right? But what I'd actually check is the plan behind my own bag. And I've got that wrong myself. Right.
Welcome back to Bull Runners. It's me, a coffee, and a stack of press releases about light bulbs. So, tell me what you reckon in the comments. I'll give you the good and the bad on this one because you can't make a proper call with your own money on half the story. [music] Here's what gets me, though. Picture the calendar on your kitchen wall with three pages left on it.
And somewhere in your head, there's a year you penciled in for when the bag would finally do its thing. Maybe it was this one. That's a horrible feeling because the year doesn't wait for the number. And doing this on your own is hard, right? Every channel's got a new date.
Every headline says something different. And the people writing the rules are working to their own calendar. And I know that feeling from the inside, right? I held XRP through the ruling on the 13th of July, 2023, and we were buzzing, weren't we? We thought the charts would fly, like literally fly.
And then when they didn't keep going, we were pretty deflated. And that's why that first link's there. Instead of you waiting on a number on your own, you've got a team reading this stuff every week. And it starts with a short free video and a free chat about your own coins. I'll tell you properly at the end.
But if the clock's on your mind, have a look to see why that clock matters. Go back to 2018. An anonymous account called Bearable Guy started dropping riddles about XRP and 589 is the numbers holders took from them. There's no name behind it and no document that sets it. And back then there were holders pinning it to the end of 2018.
Then on Christmas Eve 2025, the same account wished everyone a very happy new year 2026 and that post got nearly 5 million views. So, when a 589 turned up on the sign for 2026, you can see why holders lost their heads. Now, look at what turns up 8 days after the arrival. On the 26th of December, the numbers went up on the roof, and the Times Square Alliance put out its own sheet. The twos and the zero haven't changed, but the six has 140.
That makes 5894, and the local news read it out that morning. This is a live look right now at Times Square where those giant New Year's Eve 2026 numbers uh are perched high above the crossroads of the world. It's a, you know, it's pretty quiet right now there this morning, but the expectation is more than a million people will crowd to see the numbers and the giant crystal ball next week. The 7 foot tall 2026 will be turned on for the first time in less than an hour at 11 this morning. The numbers will use a total of 594 LED lights.
And for the
594, so the six picked up five bulbs somewhere between plaza and the roof. Holders who've counted the bulbs in the photo still get 589. And plenty reckon the number said out loud is the breadcrumb. Fluke or nod, it's a lovely one, right? And if you've counted those bulbs yourself, stick 589 in the comments.
And that's the sort of thing the research team digs out for members, by the way. So, the sign rang in 2026. What did the year actually bring us? Well, it started like a rocket. This is CNBC the first week of January.
So, [laughter] the breakout trade of the 2026 crypto rally isn't Bitcoin or Ether. It is XRP. Now, the token tied to Ripple is up more than 20% over the past week, pushing past Binance's BNBcoin to become the third largest cryptocurrency by market value. And even with the broader crypto complex pulling back today, XRP has been the quiet outperformer for months now.
The breakout trade of the 2026 crypto rally up more than 20% in a week. If you had 589 in your head, that week felt like the start of it, didn't it? But listen to what came straight back from the desk.
I like the narrative on XRP, but I'm questioning the timing. like to have banks doing crossber payments and settlements with the blockchain to me still feels like quite a ways away. I mean right now there's a lot of talks at the bank for international settlements and in other multinational institutions about how do we have interoperability? How do we make this work? They haven't even figured out what the rails look like, what the rules of the road look like. Europe and the US don't agree.
God knows what China wants to do. So, are you buying it now knowing that again I feel like broken record here with my copper comment. It's going to go down and up a lot before it this is not a straight line at all.
And now the bit that stings. This is not a straight line at all. That's a timing being questioned, not the idea. And to be fair, this year's proved it right. But here's what did move.
In March, America's two big market regulators, the SEC and the CFTC, put out a joint ruling naming XRP as a digital commodity. That's basically them saying it's treated more like gold or oil than like a share in a company. And here's the SEC's own boss the next morning. But first of all, yes, yesterday was a real break with the past, a formal break. The commission came out for the first time with an interpretive interpretative release that really sets a line between what are commodities in the digital asset space and what are uh uh securities and the significance also about this particular release that we did is that the CFTC participated with us in it.
A real break with the past after all those years in court. That's the regulator itself drawing the line. For me, that's the biggest thing to happen to XRP this year. And there's no number on a sign anywhere near it. Then the big one, the Clarity Act, the bill that would write all this into law, got pushed past the summer break.
When the Senate finally voted it on the 15th of September, it lost 49 to 50 and never even got to the debate. Here's a market analyst that afternoon. Well, you know, it's a bit of a delay. It's a setback, but I don't really think that it's going to derail uh the progress, the growth, and the interest that we're seeing in the crypto market. A setback, that's the honest word for it.
So, here's what this year's taught me. The people who write the rules work to date and they move them. That bill got pushed back, lost the vote, and they'll just set another date and nobody in the building loses any sleep over it. But a lot of us pinned our retirement timing on a number that never had a date at all. And when the year runs out, it's our runway that's gone, not theirs.
They've always got a calendar and a plan for when it slips. And most of us never got handed one. And that's the bit I'd fix first, and I've had to fix it myself. Here's the one thing this year that does have a date written on it. But first, have a listen to the people who run that ball drop on the one thing they've learned in over a hundred years of doing it.
1942 and 1943, there was a voluntary dimout. They didn't want to light up the skyline for the German subs out in the ocean. Instead, those two years they rang chimes, which was another symbol of welcoming in the new year. Up until 1995, the entire ball crew was six sign workers and a guy with a stopwatch. That's how they lowered the ball with ropes by hand.
One year there was a kid up there that got tied up with the ropes and so they had to stop the ball halfway down. Even so, no matter what happens, the new year still arrives. No matter what happens, the new year still arrives. And nobody ever wrote down what happened to 589 when it does. But somebody's written a date down for XRP.
Back in the summer of 2025, Ripple asked the Fed for a master account. That's basically a key to the Fed's own payment system. So you move dollars yourself instead of paying a bank to do it for you. Then on the 20th of May, the Fed proposed a lighter kind of account. It also told its regional banks to pause decisions on one group of applicants while it writes the rules.
And the coverage put most crypto firms in that group. And in the Fed's own paperwork, there's a footnote. The pause is expected to end on or before December 31st, 2026. That's a date on the Fed document for the end of the year 589 was meant to own. Search Fed payment account proposal May 2026 on your phone, right?
It's there on the Fed's own website. It doesn't mean the Fed's buying XRP. And I won't pretend it does, but it's a clock with an end on it, which is more than 589 ever had. Which brings it back to our coins. Here's one for free.
Open whatever app your XRP is on and have a look. Is there a single sell order on there, a price alert, anything you actually set? Because if the only plan is 589 in your head, the year can end and nothing happens. And we've seen it. On the 18th of July 2025, XRP hit its highest price ever, and it hasn't been back since.
A lot of us were holding out for a bigger number and never took a penny off. And there's one more date before the year's out, sooner than you'd think, and I'll tell you that one in a minute. On the 27th of October, Ripple's big yearly event, Swell, opens in New York for three days, and that's Ripple's own stage. So, it's the first place I'd be watching for news. Then, by the 31st of December, either the crypto firms in that Fed queue get answers or the Fed misses its own date.
Either way, we'll know. Listen to Ripple's boss on the way itself back in March. So, the Clarity Act, I I was on your show not uh a little over a month ago and I predicted that by we'd see the Clarity Act signed by the end of April. I'm going to say that the likelihood of that has gone down, but I said by the end of but I'll say uh by the end of May. So, give me an extra 30 days there.
Everyone's still at the table. We're still making progress. Ultimately, there's going to have to be a compromise on this key issue around how rewards are managed. And like Ripple doesn't actually personally have a dog in that fight, but
end of April, then end of May. And that's the shape of this whole year, isn't it? The date keeps sliding. But nobody at the table gave up on it. Some of you were going, "Fine, I'll just wait till it moves and I'll sort my bag out then." But look at July 2025.
It did move all the way to its highest price ever. And if the only number in the plan was 589, nothing got taken. Waiting's fine, but have your level set while you wait. That's what the team helps members work out. And listen to how he finished that same answer.
I am very optimistic. I was at a dinner two days ago in Washington DC, sat next to people who are much smarter than I am about how law gets made. I'll say, you know, watching the sausage getting made here has not been pretty, but uh they gave me more optimism that we are going to get there. head. Hang on. Did you hear how he said that?
We will get there. It might take longer than any of us want, but I think he's right. My honest take, I'm a believer on a lot of this stuff because most of it can't be disproved. And 589 on that sign made me grin. But I trade structure, not dates.
And this year's shown why. The big stuff came on its own clock, and nobody rang a bell for us. Now, stick around for the one day I'd be watching. So, quick recap. The sign had 589 said out loud and 594 on paper.
The regulators drew their line in March. Then the law fell short in September. Now, the Feds put its own deadline on the last night of the year and most of our coins sitting in app with no plan behind them. And that leaves you and me with three decisions. Where are coins kept while we wait?
And who's got the keys? Are they doing anything in the meantime or just gathering dust? And what's the level and the date we'd move at in and out written somewhere other than our heads? Because if we don't decide, we'll decide off a headline on the night like we always do. So for me, the time to get a plan sorted is before the year runs out.
Most of us hold the coin, wait on the number, and never write down what we do when it moves. Not because we're Darth. Nobody hands you the plan for this stuff. And I know because I've done this myself. I took my initial money back out of Dogecoin and let the rest ride.
We watched it fly like everyone did. We never took profit off the rest and we watched most of it drain away. And I bet a lot of us have ridden one up like that. And honestly, it's not a hard thing to fix. That's what our private intelligence network is for, guys.
Most of what I bring you on this channel comes from inside it. And in there it goes a lot deeper than I can in one video. Basically the research team digs into where this is heading and the members hear it first. And every week there's a call where the team walks you through how they're reading it and when they're buying and taking profit themselves. So you're not guessing and you're not waiting on another number.
Then they'll help you get it on your own keys. So no bank or exchange can freeze it. And they'll show you how to get it earning instead of just sat there. And everyone in there is holding a decent bag. and in it for the long haul, same as you and me. Honestly, I'd be a lot further along myself if we had started Alcoin Pro sooner.
And if you opened your app earlier, and there wasn't a single order or alert on your XRP, just a number in your head, that's exactly what the 15 minutes is for. Watching the calendar go around for years on a bag that isn't doing anything is its own kind of pressure. Agnes knows that one. This is a review she put up herself. She'd bought a boatload of XRB back in 2021 and watched it go up and down for years without really knowing what to do with it.
Then she got on a call and in her words, she decided it was time to stop guessing and start learning how the markets actually work. Now, results like Agnes' are exceptional and they didn't happen by sitting still. So, be exceptional. Look, you could leave it and hope the timing works out or try and piece it together yourself at midnight counting bulbs on a sign like we all have. I'd rather you just spend 15 minutes with the team and came away with a plan for your bag.
It's free and the worst case scenario, you come away clearer. So, here's what I do. Tap more under this video and hit the very first link. Watch the short free briefing and then book your free 15-minute call with someone on the team right underneath it. They'll go through where you're at with your crypto and they'll tell you straight whether it's a fit for you.
And that is the first link. So, pause this, do it now, and come straight back. I'll be right here. It's built for people holding $50,000 or more in crypto. And if that's not you yet, that's absolutely fine.
Keep watching these videos with me. They're up every day. They're free. And we'll keep learning this together. And look, none of this is financial advice, guys.
It's my take after a lot of digging and far too long staring at the light bulbs. Crypto carries risk and what's happened before is no guarantee of what comes next. And a member's result isn't a promise of yours. Your keys stay with you the whole way. The team never needs them.
And that's the whole point. So stick with me, subscribe, and there's a new one every day. So tell me in the comments, 589 or 594, nod or fluke. And keep an eye on the 31st of December. That's the Fed's own date for ending that pause and it lands on the same night the next set of numbers lights up in Time Square.
Thanks for watching guys. Keep your head stack with purpose and I'll keep you posted. [music]
